The most common cacao pests in the Philippines are the cacao pod borer (CPB), helopeltis, and Cacao stem borer, while the most common cacao diseases are Black Pod and Vascular Streak Dieback. The following practices are recommended to keep the damage level of pests and diseases below the economic threshold:

Regular pruning – removal or cutting of sources of infection (dead and infected leaves, branches, pods, cherelles, chupons) and then burying them deep in the soil, far from existing cacao trees.
